Preprocessing of images of Petri dishes


The package contains demo of preprocessing of images of Petri dishes containing yeast colonies. The algorithms, contained in this demo, represent one part of a software tool used to determine relative coverage of the dish, to estimate the number of colonies, and, using simple graphical tool, to correct this estimate. The algorithms, contained in the package, perform thresholding of an image so that the background is eliminated, exact localization of the dish and finally determine the diameter of the dish image. The exact way of processing is described in the included documentation. The output of the demo, contained in the package, are two images: the original (grayscale) image with markings of the dish center and the region-of-interest and the cropped image with thresholding and cropping, containing (grayscale) yeast colonies on a black background, with circle marking the region-of-interest.
